CYANOTYPE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Each cyanotype piece is created using a light-sensitive photographic process. Proper care will help preserve the color and detail of your print over time.
WASH
Use a phosphate-free detergent.
Avoid detergents containing phosphates, bleach, washing soda, or other highly alkaline ingredients. Cyanotype prints are sensitive to high-pH products, which can cause fading or discoloration.
Wash in cold water.
Hand washing in cold water is recommended for the gentlest care. If machine washing, turn the garment inside out and use a cold, gentle cycle.
Do not soak or leave wet.
Avoid soaking your garment for extended periods. Once washing is complete, remove it from the water or washing machine promptly. Do not allow the garment to sit wet or remain bunched up while damp.
Wash gently.
Avoid aggressive scrubbing directly over the printed area. Turning the garment inside out before washing will also help reduce friction and general wear.
DRY
Dry promptly after washing—do not leave the garment sitting wet or bunched up while damp.
Reshape the garment and allow it to air dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight while drying.
If using a dryer, tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly when finished. Avoid excessive or prolonged heat.
IRON
If ironing is needed, turn the garment inside out and use the appropriate low-to-medium temperature for the fabric. Avoid prolonged high heat directly over the cyanotype print.
AVOID
Do not use bleach, stain removers, washing soda, alkaline cleaners, or other harsh chemicals on the print. These products can alter, fade, or remove the cyanotype image.
For the longest life of your cyanotype: wash cold, use a gentle phosphate-free detergent, never leave the garment sitting wet, and keep harsh chemicals away from the print.
